FAQ
Ring Security: Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I hire a professional to install my Ring system?
While Ring is designed to be user-friendly, a professional installation by Protech Rescom strategically place devices to eliminate blind spots.
Does Ring require a monthly subscription?
Ring devices provide live video and motion alerts for free. However, to record, save, and share your video history, you will need a Ring Home plan (formerly Ring Protect).
Ring Solo: Covers one device.
Ring Multi: Covers all devices at one location.
Ring AI Pro: Includes 24/7 Professional Monitoring for your alarm system.
What happens if my power or internet goes out?
If you have the Ring Alarm Pro installed by us, your system stays guarded. It features internal battery backup and an optional 24/7 Backup Internet (cellular) connection. This ensures your alarm still alerts the monitoring center even if a burglar cuts your lines or the power fails.
Can I use my existing doorbell wiring?
In most cases, yes. We can usually utilize your home’s existing low-voltage doorbell wiring to provide constant power to your new Ring Video Doorbell. This means you’ll never have to take the doorbell down to charge a battery.
Will my pets set off the motion detectors?
No. Ring’s professional-grade motion sensors are "pet-friendly." We configure the sensitivity levels during installation to ignore pets under 50 lbs while still detecting human intruders.
Does Ring work with other smart home devices?
Absolutely. Ring integrates seamlessly with Amazon Alexa, as well as a wide variety of "Works with Ring" certified smart locks (like Schlage, Yale, and Kwikset), smart lights, and thermostats.
Is my privacy protected?
Ring uses bank-grade encryption for all video transmissions. During setup, we help you enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and End-to-End Encryption to ensure that you—and only you—have access to your footage.
Surveillance System: Frequently Asked Questions
How long is my video footage stored?
The storage duration depends on the size of your system’s hard drive and the resolution of your cameras. On average, our residential systems store 7–14 days of footage, while our commercial systems can be scaled to store 30 days or more. We can also configure "Motion-Only" recording to maximize your storage space.
Can I view my cameras when I’m not at home or at the office?
Yes. All of our surveillance systems are equipped with remote viewing capabilities. You can access live feeds and review recorded footage directly from your smartphone, tablet, or computer from anywhere in the world with an internet connection.
What happens to my cameras if the power goes out?
By default, cameras powered by your building's electrical system will turn off during a power outage. However, ProTech ResCom offers Battery Backup (UPS) solutions that can keep your surveillance system running for several hours until power is restored.
Do your cameras work in total darkness?
Absolutely. We utilize high-performance infrared (IR) and low-light sensors that provide clear, high-contrast video even in 0% light. For areas where color detail is critical at night, we offer "Full-Color Night Vision" cameras that use ambient light to stay in color 24/7.
Are wired systems better than wireless cameras?
For professional surveillance, wired is almost always superior. While wireless cameras (like some Ring models) are convenient, a hardwired PoE (Power over Ethernet) system provides a more stable connection, higher video quality, and eliminates the need to charge batteries.
Is there a monthly fee for my surveillance system?
Unlike many DIY "cloud-only" brands, our professional NVR/DVR systems store your video locally on-site. This means you own your data and there are no mandatory monthly subscriptions to view or store your video. (Optional cloud backup services are available if you prefer an extra layer of redundancy).
How do I know where the cameras should be placed?
During our initial site survey, we perform a "Vulnerability Assessment." We identify high-risk areas—such as entry points, blind spots, and dark corners—to ensure your system provides the most effective coverage possible.
eero Mesh WiFi: Frequently Asked Questions
What makes eero better than the router my ISP provided?
Standard routers provided by internet companies are often "all-in-one" devices not built for range. eero uses TrueMesh technology, which actively routes your data through the fastest, least-congested path. This eliminates the "buffering" and dead zones common with standard equipment.
Do I still need my modem?
Yes. eero replaces your router, but you still need a modem from your Internet Service Provider (ISP). We connect your primary eero (the Gateway) directly to your modem and then bridge the rest of your home wirelessly or via existing Ethernet.
How many eeros do I actually need?
As a general rule, one eero covers about 1,500 to 2,000 square feet. However, home layout and wall materials (like brick or plaster) matter more than square footage. During our site survey, we identify how many nodes you need.
What is the "Smart Home Hub" inside eero?
Select eero models (like the Pro 6E and 6+) include a built-in Zigbee Smart Home Hub. This allows you to connect compatible smart lights, locks, and sensors directly to your network without needing extra "bridges" or hubs taking up space on your counter.
Is eero secure?
Extremely. eero automatically pushes over-the-air security updates to your devices, so your network is always protected against the latest threats. For added security, we can help you configure eero Plus, which includes ad blocking, parental controls, and malware protection for every device on your network.
Can I have a separate network for my guests or customers?
Yes. We can set up a "Guest Network" so visitors can access the internet without having access to your private files, printers, or security cameras. For our business clients, we offer eero Business, which includes a professional Captive Portal (a custom login page for your customers).
What happens if my internet goes down?
If you have a Ring Alarm Pro, your eero system can utilize 24/7 Backup Internet. If your primary provider fails, your eero will automatically switch to a cellular connection to keep your security cameras and critical devices online.
